What is the PFW ACM?

The ACM is a global scientific and educational organization dedicated to advancing the art, science, engineering, and application of computing, serving both professional and public interests by fostering the open exchange of information and by promoting the highest professional and ethical standards.

The PFW ACM is an organization of students who are interested in computers and computing. We welcome any and all levels of computing knowledge, and want all members to be able to learn more about computing through interactions within the community. Especially with the advent of LLMs, and the rapid development of recent technology, it's more important than ever that individuals are involve din technology - and developing skills within the humanities, local community, & SOTA technology.

All majors are welcome to the ACM! We encourage anyone with an interest in computers or programming to join.

Programming, Computing, and Digital Communications are core parts of our modern world, and ensuring equitable access and understanding of the ways that they function and can be applied is vital to maintaining ethics in computer science.

The ACM's beyond the classroom activities provide the opportunity for all PFW students to have a multidisciplinary understanding of computer science. We hope to see you.

Why join The PFW ACM?

You should join the ACM for fun, development, community, and most importantly well-roundedness.

Membership in the ACM gives you the opportunity to pursue cool projects and events related to computers, developing friendly bonds while doing so. One of the benefits we have over classwork is that participation is optional. If you want to try gamedev for the first time, but aren't really interested in statistical analysis (or some other thing we do), that's a choice we leave to you and your friends!

We host events related to programming, project management, and computer use - events we either design to allow all majors, or provide support for those lacking experience. In practice this means getting to experience gamde design & development, cybersecurity, web dev, technical writing, computer art, tours, and talks.

As the largest scientific organization for computer science a membership in the ACM is sought by many employers and graduate schools, and being an active member demonstrates both engagement and experience within the field of CS.
